The professional development program “Introduction to Information Technology” was developed at Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University and is a basic course that introduces the main areas of application and development of digital technologies in professional activity.

The course was developed in accordance with the Requirements for the content and formatting of additional professional programs (professional retraining programs) and IT modules within the framework of main higher education programs providing for the acquisition of several qualifications, implemented at “digital departments” by higher education institutions participating in the strategic academic leadership program “Priority-2030.”

The goal of the “Digital Departments” project is to provide priority sectors of the economy with highly qualified personnel possessing digital competencies. The course is completed with a test, the results of which serve as the basis for deciding whether to admit students to the “digital department.”

The course covers such topics as:
- the concept of the digital economy;
- the most commonly used information and computer technologies in professional activity;
- the nature and scope of application of databases;
- the importance of artificial intelligence in the modern world;
- the concept of information security.

Upon completion of the course, a certificate of professional development is issued.
